Cruising upriver into the sunset at Lower Blencoe BendIf you are a boater here in the Midwest, I'm sure you are already beginning to think that our time for 'Fun in the Sun' is about to run out. We've even started to notice a few birds beginning to form their southern flight patterns. This is the time of year most of us dread the most.

Although we may not experience many more HOT summer nights, there are plenty of warm sunny days left to take that pleasure craft of yours out for a cruise on the river. The cooler nights actually offer better sleeping weather if you decide to spend the week-end camping on one of the many sandbars along the Mighty Mo.

Personally, we have spent the past few week-ends cruising as far north as Decatur (mile marker 691) and as far south as Bellevue (mile marker 601). That's 90 miles of scenic river! I would like to take this opportunity to say hello to all the new friends we've met along the way.

The "River Explorer" Tour Barge at Hayworth Park - Bellevue, NEOur recent travels took us to the Bellevue marina where we were given the opportunity to tour the River Explorer (see related article) & watch the air show.

We then headed up river to the Sandpiper marina (mile marker 619) where we joined fellow members of the Greater Omaha Yacht Club for a night The Greater Omaha Yacht Club Mardi Gras at Sandpiper Marinaof live music, tons of food & lots of laughs.

This past week-end, we headed north to join friends for our annual Labor Day campout at High Sands (mile marker 681). A few of us took this opportunity to head on up to Decatur marina (mile marker 691) where we could enjoy a cool one on The Annual Labor Day River Rat Hight Sands Boater Party!the deck at Pop-n-Doc's. A group from Tekamah also held a poker run this past week-end to raise money for their swimming pool so we had the opportunity to visit with many of the people who helped to organize this event.

We eventually headed back down south as far as Dodge Park marina (mile marker 627) and spent the next night docked up at a friends cabin in Honey Creek.

The "Riverdance" Carver Mariner at High Sands on Labor Day WeekendBeing a 'Certified River Rat', I know we'll still be out there until the forecast starts calling for that dreaded ice & snow.

So if you're on the river or near our home base - Cottonwood marina (mile marker 651), keep an eye out for the 'Riverdance'. You just may end up in our photo album.
