City of Omaha looking for Riverfront Developer

By NANCY NEUROHR

The City of Omaha announced this week it is looking for a developer to build 'a substantial and architecturally significant mixed-use structure' on 6.2 acres of land just south of the Gallup University campus.

The prime riverfront property, which is valued at $1.6 million, is located next to where the new $22.6 million pedestrian bridge across the river will be built.

Mayor Mike Fahey called this offer an 'awesome opportunity' for someone to build a commercial and residential structure on the riverfront. The city is currently accepting proposals from developers. The exact use of the building will be left up to the developers' concept. I

Proposals must be submitted to City Hall by June 25th. The price of the property is negotiable, depending on the project proposed.

Bob Peters, acting city planning director, will head a committee that will make the final recommendation to the mayor on the preferred proposal.

Questions should be directed to Peters at (402)444-6681 or James Thele, community development manager at (402)444-5150.
