April 16, 2003Plattsmouth Riverfront to open in 2004By NANCY NEUROHR
Morehead Island is being developed by Mark Morehead of Plattsmouth. Diamond Engineering & Architecture, Inc., also of Plattsmouth, is in charge of planning & design for the project. The development will feature a 6 acre business district with loft apartments, a restaurant and event centre, 160 private boat slips, public courtesy docks, 25 or more RV camping pads with power hook-ups and year-round and daily rental cottages with optional reserved marina slips. This historic site is located just south of the Platte River confluence on what was once an island in the Missouri River. From this spot more than 100 years earlier you would have witnessed five or more great riverboats docked at the foot of Main Street Plattsmouth. This was the location from which the "Emigrant", "Salt Lake" and "South Platte" trails would lead Pioneers west to their dreams. Nearly 200 years ago this very site would have been witnessed by Lewis & Clark as they spent more than 2 days exploring and documenting the area in detail. Morehead Island offers a great opportunity for anyone interested in opening a small business along the riverfront. Buildings can be custom tailored to the owners needs while still maintaining the look and feel of historic Main Street Plattsmouth. Loft apartments can also be developed on the upper levels of each business. Those interested in receiving more information about the development should contact Mark or Penny Morehead at 402-297-8565 or email: mhisland@alltel.net To
drive to the location from Omaha - take Highway 75 south to
Webster Blvd. in Plattsmouth. Then take Webster Blvd. south to
Main Street and turn east to the marina site.
