Omaha's new riverfront marina will be open and ready for visitors this Spring. Situated just north of Rick's Cafe Boatyard, the marina will provide 29 visitor slips for boaters who would like to attend activities or events at Lewis and Clark Landing or the new Qwest Center.

This will also provide an opportunity for boaters to stop and have lunch or dinner at Rick's Cafe Boatyard or one of the other many restaurants located in the nearby Old Market area.

There is, however, a fee to park your boat in this marina. Slips will be rented for $5.00 per hour and will be on a first come - first serve basis. An

attendant will be on hand to monitor the marina and to collect parking fees.

A convenient walkway leads the way from the boat docks to the Lewis and Clark Landing above. Spectators will be able to view the boats coming and going from a vantage point on the landing.

Hours of operation for the marina will be Monday through Friday from 5:00 pm to Midnight and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to Midnight.

Adam Hoyt and Ed Champion moored their boats in the marina this last fall, before the river water level dropped. Adam Hoyt and Ed Champion moored their boats in the marina this last fall, before the river water level dropped. (10-03-Ed Champion)

The new boat slips have been built to accommodate boats up to 40' in length but the size of the marina itself may make it difficult to maneuver around if fully occupied.

$5 an hour? Who is going to "attend" any activities downtown at that rate? How about validation if eating at Ricks or anywhere nearby? Overall, I am disappointed in the city's effort to provide access to the new riverfront. - Jim Brodigan

What a great addition to our downtown area. We had no problems pulling in our 25 Outlaw. Can't wait for the spring to drive down and enjoy lunch at Ricks. Very pleased that the City has taken time and money and thought about the boaters in this area. Everyone will benefit - it's a win - win situation for the boaters in this area and the City of Omaha. - Ed Champion

Hey, the $5 an hour is a bargain. Omaha ought to be commended for adding the public dock slips. It costs a lot of money to put in these docking services. At least it will be the users paying for the some of the costs. Anyway, it is a great addition to the riverfront. Wait till you see what is happening with the marina in Sioux City. - Dennis D. Butler
div Instead of paying 40+ million for a footbridge to Iowa...Omaha should spend a fraction of that to build a full fledge marina in downtown Omaha. Water=people, people=business, business=$$$ for the city. Imagine a Marina surrounded by a walk platz, a natural home for bars restaurants and hotels. People are attracted to water like bees to honey. Doubters should look at the Riverwalk area in San Antonio...a man made area which has revitalized that area. Water is what has made Rick's Cafe such a hit with Omahans. A footbridge is complete waste of money...a marina will pay dividends forever. If they build the footbridge and build proposed condo units on Omaha side. The smart money will wait until they build condos on CB side with view of Omaha...it would be a big hit view of great view on downtown Omaha. The River City needs to see the river. - Joe Bagofdonuts

Very nice, $5.00 an hour is way out of hand. You will make more money on volume. Every boater I have talked to are not going to use it. You should have some type of reasonable overnight fees or weekend rates. It would be utilized more. That would keep a lot of DUI's off the river. Remember - a full marina makes more money than a empty one. - Mark Kalasky

Where does the 5 bucks/hr go and to whom. If I were to use it, I would bring an average of 6 - 8 people to spend money at Rick's or others in the area so do the math, $5.00/hour = no use, no money for the city or $0.00/hr = 6 - 8 folks contributing an average of $80.00 to $100.00 ea. 8 x $100.00 = $800.00 for the city. Get greedy and lose Omaha, $0.00 or $800.00. - Jeff Wilson

$5 per hour is VERY reasonable. If you cannot afford it, how do you afford your boat? A reduced fee for overnight would be nice. The marina should be built so that people can watch their boats from restaurants/bars. Whoever designed this one obviously has not been around marinas very long. - John Peterson

$5 per hour reasonable? Really? How much do you feed the meter in the old market to park your car? maybe 75 cents an hour and then it's FREE after 5pm? How much does it cost to park at the QWest Center for an event? $5 for the evening? Come on now. That rate is ridiculous. On top of that I think once I got my boat nuzzled in there, I don't think I could maneuver it back out of there. Probably wouldn't be a bad little marina for jetskis though. Of course I wouldn't pay 5 bucks to park my jetski in there either, so I guess I won't be using it at all. - Todd
div
So a VERY reasonable $5.00/hr to sit at the restaurants/bars and not be able to see your boat. Makes perfect sense to me. - Jeff Wilson
div
$ 5.00 great for day timers spending the $$ for a few hours- but please cut back the rates for us overnighters- I am from Sioux Center and already will pay $ 185 per night at Embassy Suites + Marina fees, take in expenses a little more unforeseen like dining or shopping - Jeff
