This has a very special personal meaning to my own family. On April 23, 1996, my former brother-in-law Capt. John Goessling, lost his life while fighting a fire at the Dollar General store on north 30th St. Like all of the other 52 fallen firefighters whose names will appear on this monument, he left behind many people who loved and respected him.

This memorial is just one way we can express how much we appreciate these everyday hero's who risk their own lives to assure our safety. Please join us in honoring them. OmahaRiverFront.com - An On-Line Resource for River News, Information, Resources, Recreation and Travel
