third annual Sand in the City was held this year from Friday -
June 9th to Sunday - June 11th at Miller's Landing on the
Riverfront. The event raised more than $76,000 for the Nebraska
Children's Home Society Foundation.
An estimated 12,000 - 15,000
people visited the sand sculptures which were built by teams from
various local businesses. Local celebrity judges chose four
overall winners for the sculpting competition. Omaha Box
Company won the first place trophy for their "Ugly
Duckling" sculpture. Second place was

awarded to Sheppard's
Business Interiors (Miniature Golf) and third place went to Gallup
Community Builders (Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin). The Rookie of
the Year award went to DRI Title and Escrow for their "Under
the Sea" theme.The public was also asked to vote for their
favorite. This years People's Choice Award went to Millard Rotary
for their "Charlie Brown and Snoopy" sculpture. All
money raised from the event will help fund programs of the
Nebraska Children's Home. The dates for next year's competition
will be June 8th - 10th. Anyone interested in sponsoring a team or
