he
city of Bellevue wants out of the marina business and is looking
for someone to run the $1.1 million marina at Hayworth Park.
According
to city officials, the marina has been loosing money for years and
is draining their
budget. They recently announced they are looking
for someone with expertise in marina management to take over the
day to day operations and hopefully turn things around.Optimally,
they would like to lease the marina to someone who would be
willing to make improvements such as adding a convenience store, a
service and repair center or restaurant that would make it more
appealing to boaters. This person or company would also be
responsible for any needed dredging or other maintenance issues. Only
75 percent of the 200 boat slips at the marina were leased this
year. Other marinas in the area have had a waiting list for years,
specifically N.P. Dodge Park and Sandpiper. The potential marina
manager would be expected to aggressively market the marina and
put to rest any rumors that the city wants to close it down. About
$590,000 has been budgeted for 2010 to operate the marina. The
average boat slip runs about $875 for the season. The city feels
adding more amenities could possibly add to the revenue if the
right person is running it. Interested people should contact the
Bellevue city council with their proposal.
